Episode 267: A Conversation with Author Mandy Majors. Plus, the New Wallace & Gromit Movie

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 267

It’s a scary time to be a parent. Social media and technology have radically changed the familial landscape. Screens are delivering untold levels of content to kids’ eyes, ears and hearts. The scariest part? Kids and teens often know how to use this technology far better than their moms and dads. And they’re super-adept at skirting whatever safeguards might be in play.

What’s a parent to do? Freak out? Well, that’s one option. But Mandy Majors, author of the book Keeping Kids Safe in a Digital World, says it’s not the right one. Communication, she says, is key. And we at Plugged In couldn’t agree more.

I sit down and talk with Mandy about her book and how she manages technology in her own family. And I talk with Mandy’s daughter about whether her mom’s strategy actually works. I had a lot of fun chatting with them both, and I think you’ll have fun listening in.

And then, Bret Eckelberry and I turn our attention to the new Wallace and Gromit movie on Netflix. It’s called Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. And honestly, I think the film is worth crowing about.

While it may be a new year, we still have the same desire to hear from you. Tell us about how you manage technology in your own home. Are you a Wallace and Gromit fan? Tell us why. Chime in on Facebook and Instagram, or write to us at [email protected]. You can even leave us a voicemail on The Plugged In Show homepage.

And be sure to join next week when we talk about Westerns. I promise that’ll be a rootin’ tootin’ conversation, fer sure.
