Pro-Social Content

On “The One,” the 24-year-old artist dreams of settling down with a man who wants kids and will take her to church on Sundays. Shakira also expresses romantic love on “Whenever, Wherever” (and its Spanish translation, “Suerte”), “Ready for the Good Times,” “Eyes Like Yours” and the Spanish track “Que Me Quedes Tu.” “Rules,” “Objection” and “Te Aviso, Te Anuncio” demand faithfulness from boyfriends. ****Shakira150130″ width=”150″ height=”130

Objectionable Content

The singer alludes to her thongs (“The One”) and modest breast size (“Whenever, Wherever,” “Suerte”). She mentally undresses her man on “Underneath Your Clothes,” fantasizing about the “territory” she claims as her own. Although she’s cutting a guy loose for being a self-absorbed pot smoker on “Poem to a Horse,” one has to wonder why she didn’t do it a lot sooner.

Summary Advisory

Born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, this award-winning Latin songstress shed three-quarters of her name (and part of her wardrobe) for her art. Her distinct brand of Latin pop features dynamic dance beats fronted by an assertive, folk-rock vocal style. While most of Shakira’s messages are clean, Laundry Service missed a few stains, most notably “Underneath Your Clothes.”
